hit up casitas this morning for the first time this year. its starting to look more like a swimming pool than a real lake. but fish is fish and full moon is full moon and hitting both at the same time with a popper is usually quite good.

all my usual spots are about a hundred feet (or so it seems) out of the water, but there is a new weed line around a lot of the lake. Took about an hour to figure out where and how to fish this situation but when I did, so did the fish.

had a few short biters (read: SWING!..... and a miss) before getting my aim settled in to just inside pockets at the edge of the grass. brought back a bunch of grass numerous times before my first fish caused me to realize the value of fishing 20# braid. strongest fish I've caught in socal. this fish dragged the boat into the weeds and i had to use the electric to back us all out while still hooked up. My usual 8# mono would never have held. when I first saw it, I thought that it was a carp...seriously. it was that big. after over 5 minutes fighting with this thing, it finally laid up nice at the surface for a full view, lip, remove the hooks, hoot'n holler and back in the water she went. Definitely 10# class. yay for me
(andy must not have gotten my text? :dunno: cuz mah bro didnt reply)

half hour later came a solid 5#er and another 'no reply'. Whats up with that, bro? :slap:

fished til 10AM for another 3 in the 3-4# class. I'll be back early next week. Next time, I'll be taking a calico rod along for dunkin' plastics back in holes in the weeds cuz thats where the fishies are hanging out ;)

Sorry, Joey. My office and my camera were moved up to Oregon last week ... so no pics. :crying:

Great job Bill... I have fished Casitas a few hundred times and realize what kind of day that is at that lake! I have only had one day with similar results and will never forget it. June 16, 1985, kind of foggy/drizzle and throwing a Spook (clear) into the cabbage at superpoint. Got a 10 and 5 before moving to the Airport for another 3 in the 3-4# class (split shot). You're making me want to go back to fresh water!

    Congrats!!!
