Had to call in sick yesterday after hearing all the Seabass reports from Monday. Got a spot on the Pacific Eagle out of Ventura landing on a full day Seabass special. We left at 4am and joined the fleet around 7:30, the seiner Emerald Sea gave us to full tanks of squid and also supplied many other boats with all the squid you wanted at no charge. Well today was my day, I was first to hook up and put one on the deck, and also the second one and then the third one. All these before anyone else was even bit. It didn't end the I got 1 more barely legal white sea bass and a 20lb Halibut before we called it a day. Best day one the water that I have had in many years for white sea bass.

I've received a couple PM's questioning limits of 1 per angler, however the boat limit was 22 as there were 22 on board. Our total count for the trip was 7 White Seabass and 2 Halibut. Yes I got 4, but only kept 1 and passed out to others that did not get one and were able to go home with dinner. And by the way, I am still smiling.

    Great Catch... congrats!!
It would be nice for a little information, like were you dropper looping
or flylining? What do you think was the factor that made you the
    hot sick?

I used strictly a dropper loop with fresh dead squid. Most other were using live ones and I smacked mine around a bit before dropping down. Also I was using silver hooks and it seemed everyone else was using the traditional brown/bronze colored hooks. I also noticed that folks would swing on the first tap, patience worked until the fish loaded itself up. Other than that I did nothing any different than anyone else. Just was my lucky day. Several folks tried flylining to no avail and soon changed to dropper loops.

Thanks for that info, it is appreciated.....I may go out soon. :D

Have always found that "Luck" favors the well prepared. Catching
4 out of 7 WSB transcends Luck, it's called "Skill"
