    Hi all,

I searched the forum a bit with no avail. I am looking to get into a light surf fishing setup for ventura/malibu/santa barbara, California areas. Can anyone recommend a good size rod and reel. I was looking at a Shimano Stradic CI4+ 2500 reel. Is this too small for the local surf? Should I go a little bigger?

I also have a 10' Offshore angler surf rod with a Penn Battle 6000 reel. Looking for something a bit smaller to walk to beach with.

Do I want a medium strength or medium light? Fast action or moderate fast action?

Any information is very much appreciated.

    Matt

9 foot shimano clarus steelhead rod (CSS-SH90ML-2) and a shimano sedona 2500.

A stradic is way too nice for the surf.

Load the reel with 10-15# power pro braid and fish the perch with a 1/2oz sliding egg sinker, a swivel and then about 3 feet of 8# mono, then your hook. Throw grubs or berkley gulp sand worms and walk the beach, casting and reeling slow. Keep moving until you find them.

Isn't that stradic like a sedona but more salt proof.
It'll pair with anything from the Clarus to 7-8 foot lighter rods also.
Rig like Joey said and go get um.
