With El NINO pretty much a guarantee, What are the odds that some boat(s) will do exploratory tuna trips? I know the Pacific Islander did it a few years back and same with the Biscuit. Perhaps we can get one to try? I'd be interested in going as im sure a bunch of others.
sea jay just did one. I forget his well they did though... Would not be surprised by next week tuna to be at anacapa..
If you can get a boat from CI or Ventura harbor to give it a shot, I'm DOWN!! Come to think of it, I think it would be possible to charter one of the big boats and go looking for Pelagics. It's definitely worth an ask.... I bet there's more than a handful of Captains that would LOVE to get out and put some Pelagics on deck. If they score; it could book their boat solid for weeks!!
ill probably go looking tomorrow..see how it goes, if anyone wants to buddy boat or set something up for next week let me know..ill be trying again next week.
Im totally down to try. Which boats should we ask? The biscuit/pacific islander ? What boats are capable?
gave it a quick try today, 68-71 degree water. Still a bit to cold, loads of kelp and porpoises..then it started raining cats and dogs..wtf...Im watching the temps this week and going again saturday..Again anyone want to buddy boat let me know..cover more ground
I fished out of of San Diego on Thursday on a private boat. We got our fish (yellowtail/yellowfin) in 69/71 degree water. The water color seem to matter more than the temp did.
Anyone tried out at the 170 or general area (temps still look to be in high 60's low 70's)this past week? Thinking about playing hooky and giving it a shot in the next day or two....
