So I heard 2 locals caught stripers from the beach with sand crabs fishing for perch yesterday? Is this possible or were they more likely wsb? I'm in northern sb county. And how come no one else has been posting lately?
is it possible? yes. even probable I have never personally seen a resemblance between a striped bass and a wsb. but Ive been gone from socal for a couple of years. Taking into account the fukushima radiation invasion, climate change and massive oil spills in the area....................
I have heard of a few so cal striper making their way down there! Most likely following the bait! We get em in the surf up here all the time. The delta is infested with them!
A fly fisher dude from ventura caught one not long ago in ventura, a couple months back his buddy caught one also.
More common than you think. All down the line to Manhattan beach. Luck mostly but a great score if you get em.
Sand crabs are one of the ocean stripers favorite things to eat especially when they are schoolie size 16" to 20" we catch plenty around the Monterey bay on them. There has been more young fish this year all up and down the coast.
Ive caught them in the surf in the double digits in a few places. It is real. And they fight as hard if not harder than the freshies at Castaic used to.
I'm from north Santa Barbara too!. I usually go with my friend suf fishing for perch. My friend caught two stripeds last year.
