Looking to get some rod suggestions for a 2-3 day tuna trips. I wanna match this rod with a Shimano Tallica II 16 with 80 lb spectra and top shot of 60 lbs flouro or mono. I was thinking to complete the set with a 3rd CalStar Grafighter heavy but not sure if I wanna stick with an 8 ft or go 7 ft with the heavier set up

Current set ups I have are:
CalStar 800L with Avet MXJ 2 Spd 50 spectra/30 mono
CalStar 800M with Avet JX 2 Spd 65 spectra/50 mono

I would say go with either a 7ft 700H or a 6.5ft 765L. I got both and personally like the 6.5ft better. I fought a 100lb tuna on the 700H and it beat me up.

If you're fishing #50 on an 800 -M and #30 on an 800-L You're already in trouble.700-H way to light for #60 though even though it is a bitchin rod.765 ML is your rod.#40-#80.700 XH #40-#100 not a bad choice either.Used the 765 ML for years till I went all Seeker.Badass stick.

    X2 on the above.

Would definitely go with the 6.5 footer for the heavy stuff. Long rods on 60
will beat you up bad. Also would recommend not using a reel that has
a 6:1 or higher gear ratio. Something in the 4:1 range will give you much
more cranking power. And is much easier on the angler.

We all have our personal preferences with fishing gear.
Just my .37 cents worth for your consideration.

Thanks all for the advice. In Trouble? What would you recommend for these other two set ups? I had those rods and reels just laying around and did use much out here (local) and seeing/trying to make them work for SD 2 day maybe 3 day trips. I went all Phoenix and Seeker customs and went to Shimano Trinidad's. So these two set ups weren't getting any use. Will definitely look into the 765ML.

800-L rated 15-30 so 30 isnt so bad but fishing a max rating on a rod means your undergunned.Fish 20 or 25 MXJ is perfect.

Take the 800-M put an MXL with #30 badass.
Take your JX 2 speed put on an 700-h for 40. you're jammin. For most 2 day trips this would be all you need but this year the bar has been raised a little.LX 2 speed on a 700-XH for #50 your in Biz.

I just now saw you live in Oxnard go to Erics and shoot the sh*t for awhile pull on some blanks you'll figure it out
