Went out to the east yesterday as the weather on the Pacific side is very wind and the water is cold. Ran out around 20 miles or so when I found a temp break and water color change. The water went of 70.1 to 73.4 and from off color blue to nice deep blue. Slowed the boat down, put the lures in the water and started our day. I was thinking that in these changing conditions it might be wise to put a Bonito jig. So in comes the short corner lure and out goes a shiny red bonito jig. Not 10 mins later the bonito gets bit. I thought we hook a Marlin. I yelled down to the boys that I thought it was a Marlin and it will likey throw the lure pretty fast. I'm wating to this thing jump and toss the jig but it never happened. WTF????? What did we hook???? After a few more mins a Wahoo comes along side. A decent one as well around 40-50 lbs. Cool....Throw him in boys, I yelled. With that our first Wahoo of 2007 hits the deck. We get the gear back out and make a few boxes hoping to find another one but nothing. I turn back to my original course heading east. The weather is very nice on this side of the cape with just enough breeze to keep you cool. I had another Bonito jig put in the pattern thinking we might find more skinnies out here. About 20 mins after hooking the first one, the other bonito jigs gets short bit. A quick zip and that it. I slow the boat screaming for a drop back thinking that a Marlin had wacked the jig. As I creep the boat forward my deck says he's bit and sets the hook and we're wired. This time it's a marlin.......So I think. Then I see a silver flash in the prop wash as the fish rockets from one to the other ripping line off the reel. I think it's another Wahoo....I yelled. I'm thinking we won't have this one on long. He hooked that fish on a drop back, no wire, a "J" hook, we're screwed. After 10 mins or so we're still connected and we are getting close to landing the fish. Up comes the leader and sure enough another wahoo and this one is a nice one 55-60 lbs. The boys put the gaff in the fish and when it hit the deck the hook is in the every point of the upper lip of the fish. There's no way the fish could have bitten through that mono. WOW. A Wahoo on a drop back, very cool. Well, that was it for the day. After that a few more hours of trolling we didn't find anything more we went home.
