WAHOO at LA PAZ
Keone's latest report from La Paz-Las Arenas shouts WAHOO. I'm going in Sept. with GET BENt. What do I bring for WAHOO? Rod? Reel? Line? Lures? What works best in a Panga? Do we target them or are they just a lucky break for the chosen few?

Hey Larcus!
This is Jonathan. Are you part of the September Group? Let me know because how we fish the wahoo in La Paz is different than how we would fish them elsewhere!
Thanks!
Jonathan

Larry put your line out kick back and fall asleep when you hear the clicker go off jump up and grab that rod because there is something on the other end.........what kind of fish sometimes won't know until it jumps out of the water.

OK OK...everyone is a character! Basically, don't overthink the fishing here, amigo. As the guys who have fished here will tell you, our fishing here isn't rocket science. You will basically burn through hooks and that is kind of IT!
However, for wahoo we do have to exercise a bit of expertise. Forget the bombs and all that. Our wahoo don't school up thick enough for that. However, the #1 way to catch wahoo in our area is trolling. It's one of the few fish that we troll for and make a concerted effort to do it.
Wahoo are like cats. You can put something in front of their faces and they won't give it a sniff. But, ROLL it by them and they attack it voraciously. That's how wahoo are. So, we troll the BIG CD 18 size Rapals and Yo Zuri lures. Dark colors such as purple and black or black and white are the most popular.
No wire. Yea, you get bit off now and then, but hardly as much as people will have you believe. But troll with 60 pound leader (no sense in tempting fate)! Also, if you can, take the double and triple hooks off the lures and replace them with single siwash style hooks. You will get a better hookup-to-catch ratio. Guy using the stock hooks on the lures...the hooks don't bite as deep and the fish torque themselves off.
Hope that helps!
Jonathan

So you're saying I shouldn't bring 200 pounds of tackle?

O.K. Thinking and getting ready for THE TRIP. Stuff to do. Buy big SIWASH hooks. Buy and trick out RAPALAS. Wonder if you use regular stout troll pole or hold a longer more flexable pole in your hands while trolling?
