Baja Squid Info?

I'm planning on catching one of those giant Baja squid on the trip. It's almost an obsession. I've always wanted to fish for them, but never got the chance.
I'm curious about something. When you get one of those things to the boat, what happens next? Do you gaff it? Does the squid go nuts? Are it's tentacles flying in all directions? How do you finally kill a 50 pound squid?
I've been reading up on the Humbolt's. I can't say that I'd want to be in the water with a school of them around.

Gaff it in the body and slap it on the deck!......stay away from the beak, It will pretty much just lay there.
Buy a Candy Catcher 2.5 jig. It will get you to the bottom FAST, and the bigger baskets wont pull out.

Stay away from the tentacles too they have teeth in them also. You can kill them pretty easy by cutting off the head or just step on it and the head will pop off. Oh RAIN GEAR!!!! hehehe they can squirt a gallon of water with ink mixed in.

Moogie, none of the Pangueros I've ever fished with will bring one on board with the head attached, just makes to big a mess. They gaff it, bring it along side, and cut the head off. Bring along a couple of Candy Catchers smaller jigs as you don't fish for them nearly as deep as we did this year out West (700-1100 feet) PM Stickerguy and I'm sure Randy will help you out!
