Another day, another?????
Went out yesterday after taking a couple days off to let the little bit of bad weather we had from a tropical strom lay down. We went off looking to find a Blue in the ever warming waters of the Sea of Cortez. I ran out 25 miles or so and starting looking. The water was 81 degrees after the swells from the storm and looked good. After a while I spot a few scatered porps and head for them. The animals were spread out but they looked O.K. I trolled around them a couple of times when the right rigger goes off, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. The fish was taking line pretty fast as we cleared the lines. The jig was a BIG Hi-Five lure. I was thinking this might be our dog. After the lines are cleared and no jumps or soundings for the deeps it's clear that this fish is not a Blue but a nice YFT. It turned out to be about a 50# fish. A few more passes around the porps and 3 more smaller YTF's join the other one. One of the fish is about a 10 pounder. Cool...into the tube with that one. I figured being out here all alone and with good conditions like this, lets put the kite up and see with we can find some bigger fish. I go down on deck to get the kite up and working. I'm yelling instructions to the bridge on how and where to troll the kite bait through the mamals when the kite gets fowled and we have to wind the deal in and start over.....O.K. kite back up, bait deployed but we lost the porps....WHAT!!!!!! Where did they go???? We brought the kite in and put the lures back out but I was never able to find the porps again. Spent the rest of the day trolling for no more bites. The water is warming up fast here on both sides of the Cape. Maybe a trip up into the Pacific to look for cows next week.....Stay tuned.....
