Hi Guys!
Mike Alperin is coming out from the East Coast for the September trip and brought up a few points I might as well share with everyone about bait, so here goes. Most of you have fished with me/us before so you know the routine so bear with me and let me share some stuff for those who are first timers...
1. Yes, there's bait tanks on the pangas. At Las Arenas, the pangas have a bait well that we replenish with buckets (great excercise and it's primitive but effective). For La Paz, the super pangas have a regular bait tank with pump.
2. Most likely you will be buying bait. Depending on conditions and what's around, your captain will attempt to make bait or ask that you help him make bait. However, sometimes, that's just not practical or feasible and rather than spend 2 hours making bait...LETS GO FISH (otherwise Pineapple Joe will catch 'em all). So, we buy the bait from commercial guys. It's about $20 or so per day. Once you buy bait, your captain or our captains may have a few tricks up their sleeves like know a secret hole for mackerel or cabaillito so he may take a few minutes to ask you to help him get some of these "special" baits. The time spent getting a few of these could be the difference in whether you get bragging rights at night at the hotel when everyone tells their stories!
3. It doesn't hurt to bring a sabiki pack or two. They're cheap and don't take up much space and it's better to have and not need them than to need them and not have them.
4. Got a few questions about giant squid. Yes...they are a possibility, especially for the days you fish Las Arenas. It is not unheard of for the big squigglies to show up in September and they are usually the kind that eat people...30-100 pounds. Bring the biggest squid jig you can find. I know they are heavy and look like medieval weapons and space is at a premium. The other option is to get a bunch of those big solo jigs and hook them together and then bring a 10 oz torpedo sinker. This works just as well and is lighter and takes less space. If you don't want to deal with any of this, then keep an eye on these boards. I'll keep the group posted on whether it's even necessary.

I'm going to post up something about packing your gear on a separate thread.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon. Be nice to Pineapple Joe. He puts alot of work into putting this together!
Cheers
