3 days at the East Cape

Just back back from 3 days up at the East Cape. Started out from Cabo ran to San Jose to get some sardinas but couldn't find anybody around. Lures in the water near the Inner Gordo and started our day. A few passes around the inner for no hits then off to to outer. No hits around the outer, no signs of life so I made off for Distilladeras, Iman and Vinorama. On the way I found a group of dolphins, the big ones. I made a couple of laps around them for no strikes and no signs of fish but sometimes you don't always mark the fish with these big porps. So, out comes the kite and kite fishing stuff. The wind was just enough to keep the kite up if we kept the angle into the wind. We got one good pass on them then they started to go down wind and I couldn't keep the kite up. I really in a helium tank. Back out go the lures and we get a Dorado bite but it came off. For the rest of the day we zig-zagged our way from the beach out to the thousand fathom curve and back for no bites. Spen the night at Frailies. The water temps the first day ranged from 84 to as high as 88.

Day 2 starts out as soon as we get out of the anchorage. Lures out and we are on the hunt. About an hour into trolling I see a bill pop up on the long corner bait, and I could get the words out of my mouth before the lure is gone in a splash and we are hooked up to a small Blue Marlin. As the boys are getting the lines cleared but the 10 year old angler can't keep up with the airborn marlin as it came towards the boat and I was a bit slow at moving away from the fish as I was screaming orders to the crew. As the line came slack the lure fell out and that was that. Fish is gone. My falt.... Awhile later we get another blue bite on the short corner but this one is only on for a few seconds and that was it. We spent the rest of the day working our way around Cabo Pulmo to Punta Arena for lots of Striper bites and tailers in the after noon breeze. We had serveral attacks whan Aal of the lures had a fish wacking at it. No more Blue bites. Spent the night in front of the ranch. Water temps were 84-88

Day 3 started out with a vistit from a Bait pangero who only had sardinas. We took some and ran of to La Ribera to try and catch some of the bairt size YFT the the local boats had been catching the last couple of days. When we got to the area there we 30 boats chumming and a few fish hooked up. I looked around on the sonar to find the maet but I never found it. Just a few scattered fish. During one of my chum circles looking for tuna a Marlin came up eating the sardinas in the circle. With no tunas for the tubes and 60+ miles to cover back to Cabo the Lures went out and we went on the troll. The weather was kinda carppy on the 3rd day as a big thunder storm over the mainland had pushed up some pretty strong wind and a nice 6 foot swell. We were taking it right in the side as the swell was coming from the S/E and it was pretty rollie. We got marlin bite around Distilladeras. I thought it was a Blue but it truned out to be a striper. Bummer. With the weather not getting any better and a seasick 9 year old, we pulled the plug and ran for home. Water temps were from 85-87. The coming weeks should be very interesting for the Blues if condition hold up.
