Hi Guys!
Just checked out the message. Let me see if I can shed light on a few things off the top of my head...
1. Phone service - ATT, T-Mobile and Cingular work the best. Verizon and Nextel work sporadically. Make sure you call your carrier and get them to put it on "international service" for the month so you can make calls. To dial home from here in La Paz dial 001+your area code+your phone number.
2. Yes, Los Arcos does have wireless at 10 bucks a day plus there's tons of internet cafes up and down that charge about 2 bucks an hour.
3. Just a tip on your paperwork...make a copy of your passport, i.d. etc. and put it somewhere different than the original copies. That way if you misplace the originals, you'll at least be able to prove who you are.
4. Bring lots of small bills. You will thank me for it later. 1's, 5's and 10's. Avoid bigger bills and avoid using your credit card.
5. If you go to my website, there's a whole list of favorite restaurants from clients:
A guide to the best restaurants and tacos stands in La Paz by Jonathan Roldan at Tailhunter Tours.
6. Here's the link to FAQ and other stuff:
La Paz FAQ sheet, facts and information for the Baja traveler who wants to be prepared for a great Mexican adventure.
7. No way around it, the limit on weight is 50 pounds per check-in item. They will charge you if it's overweight. So, bringing 100 quart coolers with wheels are pointless. Even bringing those coolers that are triple walled with wheels take weight! Just keep that in mind.
8. Zip lock bags are a plus...Mexican zip lock bags are pretty thin!
10. Tackle recommendations:
Jonathan Roldan's "bare necessity" La Paz sportfishing tackle list, for the ultimate Baja fishing adventure.
11. Additional stuff...flurocarbon leader. You don't need much. Just a few feet to tie on.
12. Big squid have not show up. If they show up before you guys come down, I will post it up ASAP!
That's all I can think of right now...
See you soon!
Jonathan
