Bring duct tape and velcro straps........what are you putting in coolers? Nothing valuable if you can't lock it. I'm bringing a 50qt. IceyTek cooler they lock...little heavy but works and does the right job.
Carnivore I'm bringing a Plano tray with no dividers the large one 10" x 8" x 3" I think that's the deminsion and one soft bag with zip lock pages. Also bring your sunscreen you don't want your legs to look like this.

Cool thanks for the info.

Question like always I wait till close to the last minute to check things out. Here are some info from Alaska air

carry on other then the one personal item (laptop, purse, diaper bag) must be 10" H x 17" W x 24" L or less no biggie there BUT check in baggage is as below...

50 lbs. or lessNo Fee
51-70 lbs.$25 (USD)
71-100 lbs.$50 (USD)

Checked Bag DimensionsFee per Bag
Up to 62 in.No Fee
63-80 in.$50 (USD)
81-115 in.$75 (USD)

That means that 7 foot rods at 84 inches are 75$ more to ship??? another 150 round trip I didn't see this coming. The other thing is that they say that fishing gear can be checked in lieu of one check in bag that means that with a cloths bag cooler and rod tube it will cost extra for one bag?? wow what am I missing here or did I just screw up all together???

Yikes! I sure hope it's not an extra $150 for a rod tube...

Ok man I get stupid when I am tired but here is what the site say I miss read it AGAIN but still looks like over 63" is going to cost 75 bucks each way...
I just hope a rod tube with 6 rods counts or I am in deep wookie poo.

Fishing Equipment

The following items may be checked free as a third bag as long as they do not exceed 50 lbs. or 62 linear inches: Two rods, two reels, and one tackle box encased in a proper hard case or Alaska Airlines box.

An 8 foot rod tube is going to be 96 inches, 7 foot will be 84 inches.

So basically you're saying anything over 63 inches and we are going to have to pay? So that means everyone will unless they are bringing 5 foot rods?

I am not saying that from what I gather Alaska air is. The break down above is what is on their website here for the checked in baggage. I am calling Alaska air today to try and confirm what the deal is. Like I said nothing like leaving it to the last minute.

That can't be right. I've traveled with a rod tube many times and have never paid extra for it. I hope this isn't true!!

Wodar,

I didn't bring a cooler last year, but from what I remember, going home the coolers are duct taped closed at the airport after inspection. I guessing the same process for leaving LAX but I'm not positive.
