GET BENT GONE WILD HAS ARRIVED - PARTY STARTED!
Hi Everyone:
Well, they all got down here safely with no missing bodies, luggage or fishing gear! Great to see old amigos as well as new faces! Some folks had some problems with passports at the airport so they were in long lines due to some glitches but I'll let you tell them about that. I know it was a hassle, but all-in-all, the bodies piled out've the vans and deposited them in front of Los Arcos in high spirits...or high on spirits! Hard to tell with some of these guys!
Just sorry for some of you that couldn't make the party this year that I had hoped to see. Hopefully next year. Big shout out from all of us to ICEE (Isaac Cortez) that he's especially missed and shouldn't be doing anymore break dancing or drinking until you heal up that back! Get well, fish brother! Pineapple Joe misses you too!
Anyway...
Got everyone squared away at the hotel then let everyone settle in a few hours. Joey Horvath (sorry I don't know everyone's GB handles!) led a contingency right into the bar for a tequila shot...or two...or three, where I found them and some others already amping up the party.
Shuttled everyone away and down to poolside for our pre-meeting where I got to say my spiel about who, what, where, when, and why which no one ever listens to anyway, especially Ernie from the Dark Kings who eventually flipped his chair over backwards in a somersault while heckling me that got everyone laughing. (Someone said he had been drinking). But the funniest part was that he was flipped over on his back like a big turtle or tick with his arms and legs flailing in the air and couldn't get up! Took three of us to pull him up among many GB'ers catcalling him out!
Cheers to Pineapple Joe for some really nice auction items to give away to the guys and special thanks to him for buying me a bucket of KFC chicken and Jill some great dark chocolate!
Well...
The meeting broke up and some guys shot over to Caliente's sportsbook for some fun. I sent about 9 guys to the market to buy more beers. Others went to the Lord Black Bookstore and Internet Cafe (wink wink) to talk to the chariming "hostesses" there!
Basically, the town is gearing up for the big parties this weekend. It's Independence Day weekend so it's gonna be like mardi gras here by tomorrow and it lasts 3 days. The town is buzzing! In the middle of my little talk, a parade of the festival princesses came by the hotel on their "floats" honking and cheering and waving flags so the party has started! Joey Horvath immediately broke ranks from the group meeting to run out to the street to wave at the princesses! I think Joey is gonna have a good time this week.
Shawn Hendrix is already in the books. He was really jones-ing to fish so while everyone else was partying or enjoying the town, I sent him down the street to fish the beach behind La Concha Beach Resort where I told him some jacks, pompano and roosters had been molesting a school of sardines. He came back at night and said with 10 pound test he got about 7 roosters and some other fish and had a blast as the fish were ripping his spinning reel so he's up by 7 or 8 fish on everyone else!
This morning...
I think most are still sleeping. However, Todd Brushwyler and Drew Baumgartner elected to jump a super panga and go fishing on the La Paz side. Larry Hendrix and Kai Lu as well as our East Coast GB'ers Mike Alperin and Lee Cook went to Las Arenas to hunt tuna and roosterfish.
The Dark Kings emerged...some already with beers in hand...and we put them on the 38 foot Ganador sportfisher to go chase fishies out at the island. That was at 6 this morning.
So...the sun is now coming up. I doubt many others of the GB'ers are up, but it's a new day! Thanks to all. It's gonna be 95 and sunny with 6 knot winds from the south. A good day to bend a stick.
Tomorrow...first official day...everyone is headed to Las Arenas where we've had a pretty nice bite on 10-40 pound tuna about 200 yards off the lighthouse! I'll keep you posted!
Cheers!
