Get Bent Bloodies The Beaches Day 1/From Jonathan

First full day of fishing for the GB'ers and we loaded 4 full vans at dark for the early morning van ride out to Las Arenas Beach. It was lively to say the least. Everyone was anxious. Those few guys who fished Las Arenas yesterday (Kail Lu, Larry Cusack, Mike Alperin, and Lee Cook) had tales to tell and everyone was fired up. Some were more "fired up" than others. Some guys ate way too many chilis and beans last night and in a closed up van, the uh..."fragrance" of the silent ones made your eyes water and no one would own up! Sheesh...those were BAD!!!

Anyway...

Hit the beach with the sun just barely peeking out and we got everyone into their pangas and shoved off in fairly flat seas. First top bait then to the fishing grounds.

Didn't have far to go. Tuna started slamming. And slamming. And slamming. Football season was on!

I guess there's not much to write!!! All the boats came back with good loads and laughing GBer's. See the photos! Sorry there aren't more. All of a sudden my camera batteries did a flop. However, all boats got 4-12 tuna. Most in the range of 10-20 pounds foaming on the live bait and light tackle. Quite a few fish lost as some guys were a bit rusty, but all-in-all, you take the tuna, the huge 15 pound bonito mixed in, some marauding dorado, some roosters and it was a full day of action!

Jackpot money went to Flipper...again...picking up where he left off with a yellowfin tuna just a shade under 20 pounds. I think there were some larger ,but some guys did not pony up the dinero.

Again, a lot of guys were surprised at how close the fish were to shore and how shallow the water was for these pelagics to come in so close and so easy!

Headed back to the hotel with a lot of tired guys. Hopefully more of the same tomorrow although some guys are vowing to concentrate more on roosters, inshore fish, marlin and dorado. A few of the guys already filled a cooler!

That's my story!
Jonathan

Photo 4 - Kelly Ashmore and Drew Baumgartner with a nice rack. It was Drew's first tuna and he ate the heart.

blue water-La Paz

That blue water looks like pools on my pool route. They probably got a good poolman taking care of the area.
