Hey Dan I own a SKB tube and that thing is bulletproof. But I'm bringing too many rods down in two weeks to La Paz, for me and my friend Keith, whose coming down from British Columbia, and has no salt gear. You can't go wrong with SKB as their warranty is off the hook. 100 plus flights guaranteed and free replacement. Spendy but worth it. My SKB golf club case even has a guarantee that if I lose the key they will overnight replacement locks and keys at no charge.

The rod cases are normally free, but expect to pay extra so you wont be disappointed. When you pick up your fish at the hotel freezer to leave, weigh it. They had a scale at the Los Arcos Hotel. Remember 50 lbs. MAX ( 22.7 Kilos) ). Also, don't duct tape your cooler for the return flight until AFTER you have gone through the inspection at the airport. Just keep your Duct tape in your other checked bag and when they are done inspecting they will let you tape it up. Good luck and like Moogie says we will let everyone know how it goes in just 2 weeks.
And one more note.. Be respectful of the authorities especially at the airport, and you will have a GREAT time!
I CAN"T FREAKING WAIT!!!!!!!!

Allan,
Avoid bringing the long sticks and try to keep most of your sticks to 7' if you can, also you don't need a whole lot of tackle down there...............

Air Travel to Baja
Hey Allan -
Are you comitted to using Alaska Airlines? Personally, I'm not a fan of them. The only time I used them to Baja, they somehow managed to break 3" off of a rod that was housed in a Bazooka rod case. They would not reimburse me for it. I also heard of two incidents where guys coming out of Alaska and Baja were missing some reels and terminal tackle that were in checked baggage. Out of Sacramento, I stay strictly with Mexicana Airlines to Baja. They never look twice at the length of a rod case and allow me to carry on on 8 compartment reel bag with reels loaded with line. Six years flying with them now and I have no complaints. Friendly, courteous personnel, immaculate planes, 2 entree selection for inflight meals, inflight movie and all beverages, (including alcohol), are inclusive. Maybe I have just be lucky, but they are my carrier of choice to Baja. Have a great trip and hope your rods are constantly bendo!

Pineapple and me have been going to La Paz for a few years now and there was only one time that a rod was damaged. It was one of our buddies who had his rods in a Bazooka tube but he didn't wrap his rods up. We always put our rods in rod socks and tie them together, then put them in the rod tube. If you don't know what a rod sock is, just ask. One of my buddies didn't know and when we showed up to pick him up he actually had his old dirty gym socks covering the ends of his rods!!!
We now refer to him as SOCK-O

Hey Allan, no worries, Mexicana only flies to La Paz from select smaller markets. I've flown Mexicana before and it is truly a fine Airline. But not for us to La Paz from LAX. Don't have any fears of Alaska Airlines, many trips with no problems. Pack your stuff like you mean it and take all your reels as a carry on. Also, lock your checked bags with TSA locks. No Worries Mate!
Kel
P.s. Allan, I'll P.M. a list of my gear I'm bringing down in two weeks.

Bundle your rode with several rods turn the opposite direction so the butt end in is slightly pass the rod tips. You'll have butt ends on both ends.
