Exhaust Manifold Problems

My father purchased a 1977 32' Uniflite about a week and a half ago. We have been doing some minor work on it since then. The interior is very claen and the exterior is not too bad just weathered. We started the engines on Saturday night and noticed that there was very little water coming out of the exhuast. We already had the bottom cleaned and new strainers installed so we knew they were not plugged. On one of the engines the cap from to heat exchanger popped off so we replaced it and tightened the clamp. Once again the cap popped off so kept searching. When we removed one of the plugs on the Manifold we found that the manifold was blocked off completely. Checked the rest of the manifolds and found the same thing. We have now removed the manifolds and brought them home to try to salvage. Is there a shop that can clean these out when they get to that point, or are we going to be stuck buying new ones? We live in Simi Valley and the boat is in Channel Islands Harbor.

Ya don't waste your time and money cleaning these up get new ones. If they are that bad you will only get one more season out of them and then you are back fixing these all over again. The other thing if they leak into the exhaust at all it can run into your motor and hydraulic on a start and then it is rebuild your engine time. I don't remember the name of the place but Joey found a place with cheap manifolds and risers in long beach and they are really good castings not the cheap ones. I would spend the extra and replace the risers too unless they are in really good shape. If you can too check the pipes feeding the manifolds for rust and corrosion. It might be when you get this thing back together that the engine will need a flushing or worse. Man welcome to the wonderful world of BOAT ownership. Remember BOAT stands for Bust Out Another Thousand.

It looks like we will be replaceing the manifolds and the risers because one of the risers is craked. If anyone knows of a good place to get them, please chime in?

Thanks

Best place to get them for the cheapest prices i've found is Egge Marine. I think they are in long beach.

If you need to replace the manifolds, replace the risers too. You'll be glad you did.

I went through this exact same situation about 4 months ago.

I have never had a problem with Stoll Engine in Long Beach. Sometimes they are a little grouchy, but they'll get the part.

They can get any part (so they claim) and so far it has been true for me.

Stoll Engine Company
