trolling motors

How many small boat owners out there (i.e., 18-21' center consoles, etc.) feel the need for a trolling motor for offshore fishing? If so, what make do you recommend. My boat pic is to the left...

Are you talking about an electric one or a small out board.

How much trolling do you plan to do and how slow is your boat in gear at idle. You can also use a trolling sock to slow ya down or 5 gallon buckets with a few small holes in the bottom.

IF you have the room a small out board is a great idea to not only troll with but use if your main motor crocks.

I can troll fine with my outboard. Thinking of trolling motor to keep the boat in position when desired. The second outboard is a great idea but I don't think there's any way to attach it to the transom (I'll check with the dealer).

I'm no expert at this, but when offshore we fish surface shoals of Yellowtail that we can usually see. Many a time these fish are boat shy and when you approach them they drop away before you can get close enough to cast a lure over them.

One guy here has a small electric motor mounted on his boat (like a bass boat) that he uses occasionally under those circumstances. I have actually never asked if this has ever helped him, but I would guess that it may be useful at times.

He often uses fly tackle if conditions are right.

Just to add something, it is a pretty small boat and he always fishes alone.

Hmmmm it would be nice if we had a pix of your transom!

transom

The port side is the same as the starboard side without the swim platform... fuel intake is inbetween the pole receptacles that you see here but on the port side. Whadda ya think?
