Quick slooooooooooow trawl at CI

She made it out of the slip and off to the fuel dock on her own for the first time in at least 7 years:

Went out for a 4 mile round-trip cruise this morning. The only glitch was 2500RPM produced approximately 6 knots (no knotmeter or GPS today) and 200 degrees water temp. Next step is to take off the heat exchanger and clean it out. The exchanger hasn't been serviced since new - 1979. Everything else in the coolant system has been replaced and checked out OK. The engine boss at the thermostat housing hit the low 190s on the laser-temp-reader-gadget. Sustained RPMs up to 2000RPM was consistantly 180+/- with the 180 thermostat.

If the typical breeze had been blowing from the rear starboard corner, this would have been a perfect landing approaching from the right side of the picture:

I think that I spilled more fuel on the deck (while loading 80 gallons) than I used for the entire trip. :+ I need to check the filler vent, also.

I was hoping for 7 1/2 knots at 2500RPM...

PS to "I dont feel good" carni: The steering system burped a bit over the past two weeks. I had to top off the upper helm with about a half cup of fluid.

Really glad to hear that man. Sorry I missed the trip today I could have used a day on the water even if there was no fishing. I have been in and out of consciousness all day and didn't want to pass it along. I am sure you have checked into it but for a diesel motor 200 is nothing. Most run around the 220 mark with no problems. She is going to be a great weekender for sure.

Considering the following statement,
Quote:

I would have to say you were quite successful. Keep at it and good luck!!

thanks for all the replies. Now that I've had a chance to run her, I have a new list of "honey-do's" to complete before heading to the islands:

verify ALL gauges for accuracy including the tach sending unit.
learn my electronics - GPS will give me my speed.
temporary swim-step-mounted transducers to find the fish.

But harbor cruises and maybe some sand bass/halibut drifts just outside the harbor might be in store.
