Epirb Feedback

ACR 2766.6 MINI B 300 ILS EPIRB With ANTENNA

I was browsing for an epirb for my boat, im seriously in the market presently for one, and i ran across this one. I cant say i know a ton about these things but this price seems too good to be true. Far as the website, they are rock solid, ive made several purchases from them over the years with no problems. But for the advertised price($150), either this is a real steal..or something is wrong with it. So i submit this for your scrutiny and feedback.

well if its new its probably at least a good unit becouse they are probaly regulated big time by safty organizations-but if the best ones aint too much more youmay wanna go with the best-cant put a price on safety if you got the bread.

That looks like a "personal use" epirb?

I would suggest taking the time and stopping by to talk with the Coast Guard about EPIRBS.

Mitch, that EBIRB uses the 121 mghz frequency, which is only a homing frequency, not a distress frequency. The USCG will not respond unless there is a 406mghz distress signal that accompanies it. The 121 mghz alone is just about useless. You need to get a 406 EPIRB that is gps enabled and has the 121 homing signal. The one pictured above is NO BUENO.

For the price, an ACR 406 PLB EPIRB w/GPS is hard to beat, and they can be had for less than 500. It's also compact, waterproof, submersible. It's a good choice and does not completely empty the wallet. It does not float, so it has to have it's own little floating case. It has a lanyard, so it can be latched to a survival suit. I have this unit on my boat along with survival suits.
