BBQ questions answered

Ok for those that have or had boats and BBQs on them what one did you use and how did it work. Right now west marine is on a clearance sale (just picked up some 100 buck rod holders for 25 to 50 bucks (Marina Del Ray)) and noticed they have the magma 15" round BBQs on sale. Now they have a 99$ on that is normally like 125 or 150 but reviews I had read said it leaked grease all over the place when you could keep it light. The one up from there is the 188 one normally I think 299 with only 2 good review that they liked it. I really don't want to go over 200 bucks as that is more then I spent for my home one. I am just tired of eating cold sandwiches when I could have some burgers or hot dogs or () hehe only time I get to use that smile. Just though I would get some ideas from anyone that has any BBQ and how they like it.

Thanks all.

Kuuma 160

I just picked up a new today.

I got the Kuuma Stow N' Go 160.

Very sturdy - Fold Away Legs for when we use it as a table top BBQ while camping and I have it set up with a mount plate to fit into one of my Rod Holders when out in the boat.

Comes with a removable grease tray but then again so did my old Magma but it never worked very well and the Magma BBQ did not hold up very well.

Has nice lock downs on both sides for the lid which is great when storing.

Although I just got this Kuuma one I have used a number on other boats and have been told that they hold up very well, are very sturdy and clean up easily as well.

Will get it's first work out this weekend

Mitch's Grill Rocks!!

as long as you have a spot for it it cooks the hell out of burgers and hot dogs. It's fed me MORE than my share (and someone else's share).

Ya I do remember that one now. I was looking at one at WW that was 20 bucks or so but thought it would blow out easy. That one of yours worked well in the galley. Does it work out side well or have you tried it in the wind? My boat doesn't really have any place to get out of the wind to cook unless I want the cabin to smell like what ever I cooked hehehe. Thanks for the info guys I really appreciate it. No need spending 200 bucks and it turning out to be a POS.

Tim that looks like a sweet set up I will have to go do some research for prices and availability. Thanks bud.

The catch with WM is they lower the price on the bbq but raise the price on the mandatory "accessories." I think that the required rail mount costs almost as much as the bbq itself. And the stainless steel flippers and grippers?

Carny got mine for $124.99 on sale along with my captains card. Stainless Steel and from the looks of it unclesurf's has been used and he says no drips and stays lit. I am stoked to hear this as that is a good review for the one I just picked up. They have them at REI, West Marine, Bass Pro, some Boaters Worlds, On-Line and on eBay as well.

I like the wind breaks on the one phishy has pictured. Sounds as though phishy has had good luck with his so that too is a good review for it. I think the biggest thing is how you take care of them. We all know phishy seems to take good care of his stuff this is probably a testament to why his has lasted 2 years without issue as many of the more expensive models won't when not cared for. A good lesson.

I can say that I was not pleased with my Magma's (had 2) but do know others ho love theirs so who knows.

I looked at WM and they indeed had a number of BBQ at much cheaper prices but I just didn't find them to be as sturdy.

Most of these BBQ's (at least the marine series) will take one another's mounts for boat use so you can pick them up most anywhere. Star Brite also make a great grill cleaning kit for marine grade grills, just make sure you use it at home and not on the boat heheehe - messy.

OK - quick question so you are out during lobster season with many MGD's aboard Click the image to open in full size.. You bring up a limit of bugs and throw them on the BBQ, then eat them. If they are in your belly are you still in possession of a limit or can you fish for more Click the image to open in full size.

To your question Sinker, I'd fish for more bugs!
