Which O/B would you get?

Looking around for possibly repowering my boat.....1996 trophy. I currently have a POS 120 Force that blew out a powerhead.

The three that i'm possibly considering are:
1. 150 Yamaha
2. 140 Suzuki
3. 135 Honda

For the whole package i have quotes of approximately:
1. $13-13.5K for the yamaha
2. $12K for the Suzuki
3. $12K for the Honda

I'm leaning towards the suzuki at this point. Price is important followed very closely by reliability and performance. Please weigh in with your opinions. If i go through with this, it'll be within the next month.

Whatever the max horsepower rating is, you want to be pretty much there with the power, or just a tad short. 140 or 135 seem a bit underpowered for that boat. Aslo, consider that the 140 Suzuki and 150 Suzuki have huge differences. The 140 Zuke is built on a fairly small block and has pretty much been cranked up all the way to get that 140 horsepower, and it turns a fairly small prop. The 150 Zuke is on a big block, and I mean big. Lots of torque and swings a massive prop. For me, I'd go with the 150 Zuke in that power class. If the 150 Zuke is too much, then I'd go the route of the 150 Yamaha. I'd not even consider a 135 horse engine on that boat.

For your boat get the Yamaha150 w/the smart gauges.I have this set up on my boat ,and I think it's totaly trick. Tells you RPM ,Temp, Batt Volts,Oil Press. Engine hours.Even tells you when to service it ,and lets you know if you have water in your fuel.Check it out at Yamahas website.

I have to say I really like Yamaha but if I were to re-power it would most likely be the Suzuki. They are lighter for the relative HP then other brands and getting better fuel economy. I really hate saying that because I love yami but the truth is what it is. I would follow Defiance's advice too on that.

Cari's right on about the gas mileage for sure my 200 4 stroke gets about 2.5 mpg w/the boat full of people, and dive gear.On the plus side I know that the new Yamis are bullet proof, not sure about suzis,or Hondas, but I know a guy who does urchin off his Wilson that says he's got 10,000 hrs on his Honda 4 stroke,he says he just keeps up w/the maint. Good luck .

Go with the 150 zuki they are the best bang for the buck. Especially sense you will be chaning out everything anyway.

If 175 HP is the max, then you really should be going the 150 horse route. You'll stress the 150 a lot less than a 120. 120 horses on that boat is definitely underpowered. There are pros and cons on all of the 150 4 strokes, but the good news is that they are all pretty damn good. The Suzuki will swing the biggest prop of any of them. I have nothing against the Yams or the Hondas either. Price shop them and see what you can get. Just make sure to get a stainless prop and get the folks that put the engine on to agree to assist you in properly propping the boat.

I lean towards the 150 suzuki.

Have you talked with Eric @ Specialty Marine? He's a dealer/installer for all three.

Sometimes you can get a new motor with a "blem"....like a little scratch in the cowling or equivalent.....for $1-2k less....
