boat steering wheel

ok i have gotten a new steering wheel for my boat but i am having problems. I have a 89 bass chapion and i cant get the old steering wheel off I took the actual steering wheel off by taking off the 6 screws but i cant get the back thing off. I took the middle made nut off and it doesnt just slide off. I dont know if theres a pin hidding somewhere or another bolt of nut somewere. anyone know what i might do. thanks matty

You need a puller, basic automotive tool. It creates a bridge over the center shaft, then a center screw pushes the bridge away from the shaft. Good luck.

Like Jeff says, you are going to need a puller to remove the wheel. It has claws with a center punch. They work great.

Harbor freight they are about 8 to 10 bucks. The problem is the shaft in the center has teeth on it an those are at an angle so it wedges the hub on to the shaft. You can get it off with a hammer but the hub is useless an if you miss and hit the teeth then the next one won't go on right.
