Harbor Tackle Fishing Report August 15, 2008

Same old, same old report; with the exception of croakers. Schools of croakers have finally hit the bay. The bigger croakers seem to be coming from the lower bay behind Assateague. The surf is producing kingfish, blues, a few flounder, skates, sharks, and rays. At the Inlet there have been tog, triggerfish, spadefish, stripers, blues, and shad. Alot of undersized flounder were caught this week. The flounder are coming from the Rt. 50 Bridge, Thorofare, the East Channel, and back behind Assateague. The larger flounder are hitting live spot in the East Channel. At the Rt. 50 Bridge at night stripers have been caught. It was reported to me from one of the DNR officers that puppy drum were up by the Isle of Wight Park. The wrecks are producing sea bass and nice flounder.

Harbor Tackle Fishing Report August 25, 2008

Surf Report is kingfish, croakers, spot, small flounder, sharks, rays, skates. There seems to be a few bigger sharks in the suds. Schools of croakers are up and down the bay. One of my customers caught over 400 legal croakers by Buoy 10 in front of Eagles Nest Campground. Plenty of undersized flounder and some keepers are being taken by fishermen from the Bay. A few bigger stripers have turned up this week in the Inlet and the Rt. 50 Bridge. The Inlet is producing tog, triggerfish, spadefish, stripers, blues and shad. The flounder are coming from the East Channel, Rt. 50 Bridge, Thorofare, back bay behind Assateague. By now most of you have heard about J. C. “Koss” Kostyak ‘s 52 inch 50 pound 6 ounce cobia taken from the Assateague Surf on a fresh bunker head last Thursday. Martin Chaverca caught a 3.72 pound bluefish from the Rt. 50 Bridge using a Gotcha Plug.
