Well in november i'm going to Hawaii for a week, it been probably 10 years since I've been there. While I'm there I'm defiantly going to do some fishing. Most fishing I did when was there when I was kid was with nets, pull nets and gill nets. Only fishing with a line I did was at the wharf and that was with bamboo rod and with small hook and shrimp, use this setup catch buckets of some sort of bait fish. I've bought a couple books on shore fishing in hawaii and all they talk about is late night fishing for ulua(large jack) which requires 100 pound line and big 8 oz sinkers. Sounds like real pain considering setups requires a bazillion different knots(bimi twists and other weirdness) and I also don't have the gear. I think I'm going to bring my flipping stick with a catala300 and my ultralight rod that i use to fish 3" swim baits.

Anyone have any suggestions on other gear, lures, etc. Even better would be a forum for hawaii fishing(searched high and low for one). My first destination is Waikiki(which i won't be fishing) but my second destination is the island of molokai which has almost 0 fishing pressure especially on the north, west and east end. They also have pier which is open 24 hours. Have no clue what setups to use, or where to fish it. Its borded by coral reefs with a big channel cut through the coral for barges to come in.

Dude-I so wish I could fish Hawaii... Your a lucky !!!

If I had any suggestions, it would just be to barrow some heavy tackle. Big fish are everywhere in those waters, and I wouldn't want to miss out on that.

Make sure you bring a laptop and upload the pictures from your hotel (or are you staying with family?) ---->Don't forget the camera Todd
