Hello all ! My name is Scott, and I'm new to the site, although I have already met many of you. About A year ago,A guy showed at my shop with his little girl, and basicly....never left!!He was a regular fixture around here, and quickly became one of my favorite people, with his sense of humor, advice, and knowledge......certfied tackle ho.....Tim.We already miss you guys here ,Buddy! I've known miramar a while...met bajadave...batty...GREAT bunch of guys! Look forward to meeting and fishing with more of you when something starts chewing out here again.A little about myself:I live in Camarillo Ca.with my beautiful fiancé',Johanna. In the rare spare time i get,I love to fish saltwater, mostly mako & thresher sharks, but if it swims in the salty stuff,I'm game! Unfortunately, haven't as much lately since boat motor blew up 60mi.offshore,and is at the moment keeping my driveway company. In my not-so spare time,I am a professional rod builder/tackle designer/co-owner of the American Rod Co.(A.R.C).I built my 1st.rod at age 15 (20 years ago...damn,now I feel old!)while working as a machinist apprentice in my grandfather's machine shop, where he made "one off" reels for fun when things were slow.I instantly got the bug and started building rods as a hobby.I went to work as a machinist/engineer for a small aerospace/medical machine shop.As the aerospace industry started to fall apart,my boss decided he wanted start machining fishing reels. We went to work....and the first Abel fly reel was born!During my 16years with Abel the company grew from 8 people to 75 at it's peak making everything from bass rods,to sportsman's luggage...even parts for other reel companies. For 7 of the 16 years,I had a part time business on the side making custom rod components, rod machines,(3 of them are still doing all of Abel's rod production to this day.) and of course..rods. The business started as Get Bent Custom Designs (ironic...huh?),and then evolved into Specialized Performance Tackle. As my side business started to grow, I started a 1 year "phase-out"of Abel, working part time...less time....no time....until my now full time gig is going full steam!Things were good. During this time I teamed up with a business partner,Allen. Now things really start crankin'.....new ideas....new products....new name(A.R.C.)......Then it happened. BAM!!!!!....9/11......rock cod closures.....island closures....economy in the crapper. All within a few months of each other! Devastated. Thought I'd have to get a McJob somewhere. But I REFUSE to give up what I love and worked hard for. I'm still at it , and after 1000+rods last year,I figure I must be doing sumthin' right. But I have to give credit where credit is truly due:fisherman who are dedicated and love their sport,as I do.Well....enough of the long winded history lesson.I'm here to contribute what i can to this board.....but mostly to learn ......and B/S with other fisheads.....which is what I'm best at,so I'm told.

Welcome to the board ScottThat was actualy a good history lesson. I how you went from a machinist to a rodbuilder/tackle designer. You will have tons of chances to fish with us. Maybe you can give us some tips at T-shark 2004 ( Ihope we have better conditions than last year)

Killer I kind of get to meet you. I have heard so much and some of it was actually nice. Just kidding I have heard nothing but good things about you and your fishing rods. I hope to fish with you some time and many times after that. Welcome to the board and that mako / thresher experience will be called upon by me for sure as I want a few to call my own this summer.

I have heard nothing but good things about you. I've seen a few of the rods that you have made in Tim's collection and all I could say was "WOW". Nice to hear you're aboard.

Welcome aboard Finadict !!!

That was a great history lesson on you and your company... its amazing how things can go from personal rod building to one of the best rod company's around! I don't YET personally own an ARC rod but after seeing them in action and hearing Sinker give it his seal of approval (5 's), I'm looking forward to owning one, or two, or three...hehehe .

Very happy your with us and I (as well as many others) look forward to maybe someday fishing, and BS'ing with you.... not to mention Batman... who is probably thinking of hundreds of rod building questions to ask ya, as we speak... hehehe.

Again, welcome... its an honor to have you here at GETnBENT
