Just wanted to stop and introduce my self. My name is Geoff, and I am an avid fly fisherman. I do spin fishing and I have the bait casting gear. I pretty much fish for everything in the freshwater.

I hope to learn a lot here, I was directed here by Bearfish, thanks!

Yes sorry about the mix up earlier and I am very glad you stayed on. You are in my favorite neck of the woods (Alaska that is) I have family all over up there from wrangle in the inland passage up to barrow and have fished for salmon all over. My cousin has an airline that supplies the norther territory and lives there in Fairbanks. I would love to see any pictures up in that area it is gorgeous. Thanks for joining in and welcome.

Yes, welcome aboard Geoff (aka GlobalFisher). I too am really excited to see some reports from Alaska! This site has tons of great members and information... but we do need more fly fisherman and you being from Alaska... sheesh, your gonna get super bendo!

Again, glad your with us Geoff...

ps... What kind of fish do you target when your fly fishing up in Alaska? Salmon, trout, etc? I don't know fly fishing well but I understand its has some of the best places for it. Also.. do you do any flattie (Halibut) fishing? Again, Alaska is the best spot for HUGE FLATTIES!!!

Yes! I have seen pics of flatties in Alaska. It's funny because we get all excited out here when we hang a 10 or 15 pounder. Out there, your bait can be 10 or 15 pounds...

Yikes!

I have not fished in alaska yet, since we just moved here and the water is frozen over. I will be going after trout, salmon, steelhead, dolly varden, grayling, char, halibut, rockfish. In that order. Halibut, I am guessing I will get out 2 times at the most a year because we need to hire a guide and get a ways out there. There flatties are huge!!I dont really know the names of many rivers so I wouldnt be able to tell you that. I know for a fact, the Kenai, ship creek, and capbell creek. I will tell you more of them once I find out.

well kenia peninsulahas the biggest salmon I have ever caught and the surrounding area you can catch 30+ pound flatties from the shore line. Check your local laws as I know some of those rivers and creeks have 0 take at certain times of the year. It shouldn't take long to get to know the areas and you will really know all about getting bent.
