fishin' hard for the big ones

the only large freshwater fish which you can catch in new jersey with regularity are carp and catfish. sure, there are arguably large bass and other gamefish occasionally, but if you want to see something in f/w over 10lbs. often around here, accept the verdict of a serious reality check, bite the bullet, and break out the dough bait, circle hooks and the trebles. it's a rewarding sport if you get down to hauling in a 10-15 lb carp or cat on a regular basis, and the big carp are as much of a challenge to hook as they are to haul in--good luck and long nets to all-----bill--

Yup, carp are the #1 sportfish in the world. Huge in Europe and Asia. I've seen carp in the 30-50lb range. They look like pigs with fins.
