Float tubed Haskell's Beach this morning with Bryan Davis. The conditions were pretty nice except for the tide was pretty low. Started the day off almost right away with a short halibut on the 3 inch Big Hammer (Sea Wolf color). Just after that I got a tiny rockfish. Bryan showed up and got himself a 25 - 30 lb. Angel Shark on the 3 inch Hammer and I got a small white seabass. I decided to do a little exploring and went up toward the next "beach". I found a couple more short halibut (one on the Assalt Ringer in Pearl Flash and one on a Rebel Minnow crankbait). On my way back I found some very clear water with a nice mix of eel grass, rock, and kelp. It was like I was looking into an aquarium. I stopped for a while and watched perch, a school of small white seabass, a leopard shark, a few small bat rays. Started fishing the Ringer again (Texas-rigged so it is weedless) and got a pretty big rockfish (about 15-16 inches). Bryan caught a few more short halibut back near the pier and had left. On the other side of the pier I kicked through some nasty looking water (weeds, tar, etc.) into a clear spot with a sandy bottom not too far from where I was going to get out. I decided to make a couple more casts with the 3 inch Hammer and I was glad I did as I ended the day with a 26 inch halibut.

Good job on the 26 incher, Pete. How were the launch conditions? The waves were pretty tame at Carpinteria today.

Pete,

Nice job at Haskell's! You really had a nice variety of fish out there on this trip and being able to see them like you did sounded very cool. Congratulations on the legal halibut at the end.

Launching was very easy - probably the easiest I've ever seen it at Haskell's. Very small waves.

Do you guys all know about the tournament series Brian is putting on? The first one was on July 23rd (I nailed a 7.5 pound calico during the tournament!!!). The next one is scheduled for August 20th. Unfortunately I will be out of town but here is the info on the tourney.
