Ive got a seeker

Seeker 665: VERY good condtion rod like new( I don't think its ever been used). It is 6.5' and it is rated 20-50 but it would be a good 40lb and a light 50lb. I am asking $90

I guess you don't have a 4/0 to match it with, batman? He kind of wants to get this outfit " together " and fairly soon.

Thanks

Since when do you need 40# for rockfish? I never go any higher than 20# and do fine.

I was running 40# yesterday for the fun of it but WAY over kill for rockys. 15 to 25 is all you will ever need even if you run 16 oz jigs in 300 feet. If you are going to work over 150 feet constantly and would suggest a high ratio reel like 6 to 1 but 40# is really over kill and if he is just going to go after rockfish then pick up a cheapo combo at Walmart or K-Fart and be done with it.

He's not going to fish 40#. I myself fish 20 # to 25# for swrf. Maybe he's thinking of the rod rating. Do you have any suggestions Joey. I use a 3/0 with 20 to 30 pound rod. Any suggestions on a smaller size reel?

I personally recommend the Shimano Torium 16 or 20. I use it alot and love it. It's really fast too at 6:2.1 ratio. Very handy for cranking up alot of line real quick and those depths.

I hear you guys, I don't think he wants to pay 170 for a torium. He's probably going to have to check out the local sporting good stores.

I think he wanted a rod rated for 40lb because those rods can usualy hold more weight. A seeker or calstar 665 and a Newell 533 would be nice. The 5:1 gear ratio makes reelin in those rock fish quicker.

Honestly, i think that a 6 ft rod is too small for what you guys are looking for. If he is fishing the surf then he WILL need a rod much longer than 6 ft. Also, longer rods can help you to fish jigs. I think you should get a rod around 8-9 ft.
