Pool help

Bruse: You've got a typical problem that alot of pool owners experience. The plaster is chipping due to its inability to bond any more to the gunite shell. This is caused by two things the water chemistry hasn't been maintained for a long period of time (years), or the carbon molecules in the plaster have lost their ability to bond together, everything in this universe is bonded together with carbon atoms, even us. If you have a servere chipping problem, than its time to replaster the pool, in some cases you can drain the pool and sand the problem areas but if the chipping is everywhere than forget that. The problem with the color wheel in the light is the motor is gone. If the light still comes on but the wheel doesn't turn its defective. These are considered high end lights and usually retail for about $550.00 to $650.00 installed. A normal pool light retails for about $175.00 installed.
As for your blue plaster it should be white, the color of blue on plaster comes from improper pool water chemistry (the guy that takes care of the pool is the guy that gets the pool in that condition). I can give you a bid on plastering your pool and since your a member of the forum I'd be happy to sell you a light at my cost, just pay shipping. I pay about $110.00 for a normal light depending on the length of the cord. A pentair color wheel light is costing me about $450.00 depending on the length of the cord.
I could make arrangement to make a service call up there or hook you up with a good poolman in that area. Sometime I pass thru Simi Valley, could talk about that. As for plastering we go to that area for that type of work. Plastering could be considered costly but thats how the pool was built. A typical plaster job on a 30'x15' pool runs between $4400.00 to $5500.00. PM me on any other issues. Tim (surfdog)

Thanks for the reply, the chipping is minimal, when the pool was built they really did not trowel out the plaster as good as they should of, there are some very rough areas in the jacuzzi. The house did sit empty for about a year and a half after the pool was built with minmal care. The light is doable, I do have a question about the Goldline chlorinator.. is it typical to not be able to read when the water is cold? I have had a pool all my life but this is the 1st salt pool I have had. In the winter months I just monitor and add chlorine as needed like a regular pool.

I'm gonna talk a few things over with the wife and then send you a pm. I wanna see what she wants to do. We have a baby due anytime now and gotta check schedules and cash flow.

Thanks

Tim is right-on the money , with the pool being that new it diffidently has no cooper lines so the bluing is coming from your heater , your pulling copper of the heat exchanger from a bad PH blance most likely . I say but the kid on hold and get the pool fixed ... , baby comes first the pool can wait !

I would suggest you have the pool sanded and acid bathed , that alone will more than likly get the pool looking better and as far as the light goes if you can live without the colors for now just replace it with a standard pool light , later on you can allways go with the FIBER-OPTIC lighting ... very kool stuff

... best of luck , congrats on the baby

What would a sanding and acid bath run roughly for a 30,000 gallon pool?

pool acid wash

Bruse; Standard industry prices for a acid wash vary from $425.00 to $600.00, sanding anywhere from $225 to $500. Simi Valley is loaded with poolmen and also some pool stores. It's best to shop around, get some bids from independant guys and some pool stores, they're in the yellow pages. Oscar made a good call on the acid wash and sanding, that would be a good way to go also if the chipping isn't that bad. We've been putting alot of salt generators in lately, I haven't been around the Goldline product much but will check into it for you. Good luck and yes the new baby is much more important.
