It's important to have $200K potential in a sales job given the amount of bs people give you just to help them... HOWEVER... be realistic here, you would probably have to break every record in the books to truly EARN even $100K ($8,333.33/mo) in most sales jobs out there.

I'm not trying to be negative, just realistic. I've hired a lot of sales people and I know what kind of money they CAN make... and the kind of money they ACTUALLY make... 'cause I write the "comp plan"... then I manage their performance.

Out of curiosity, what are the performance requirements to attain that type of paycheck?

Good luck and kick some butt!

I do hope you get your payday.

Oh, by the way...

$200,000 is an average monthly paycheck of $16,666.67.

If you did not start at that rate you will need to make up for it later in the year which will probably require your performance to put you in the $25-$30K range (whatever that requires in total sales/collections) during the last 4 months of the year.

el jefe
I agree with El Jefe.
I work in sales and there were only 36 of us, out of 1800 salesmen, that wrote the big number. Very few become "heavy hitters" anywhere.
Better be sharp, know your product, be aggresive, look your best, and be a closer if you want the brass ring.

As far as passing on the Military, well, at your tender age of 18, the Military might not have been such a bad thing for you.
Some of us on this site did their stint with Uncle Sam during peace and war, and as I noticed when you announced your enlistment, many of the GBer's wished you well.
A very patriotic group we have here.
Who knows, you could have become an Admiral, and with all of the connections you'd have, you could get me all the squid beaks I'd ever need.
Sell your brains out. . .

LOL Joe..So when in BOOT Camp is one to spend that FIRST paycheck. BTW..The pay for Uniforms is not taken out of the BASE PAY..it's taken out of Pay allotted for UNIFORMS..thus the name "Uniform Allowance". Of course many of us referred to it as "Beer Allowance" then boitched because we had to buy Uniform replacements with our BASE Pay.

Shoulda signed up grasshopper.

Lotsa bennies in the mil. Course, ya gotta stay alive to collect em and trust me when I tell ya, that can get down right tricky these days.

Med, Dent, Education, to name a few.

Let's look at the last one. Education.

Not too many jobs out there that pay 200g's to an uneducated teenager. There are some I suppose but not many. Now if this is a salaried position and your paychecks don't bounce across the counter, then hell, CONGRATS!

Now, let's look at the last word in the last sentence. Starts with CON.
HHHHmmmm.

I had a dream as a young boot that when I got done with UncleSam, I would find a girl whose Daddy owned a liquor store or brewery and live the good life. Yeah, right. That plan never happened.

Get an education or get extremely lucky.

The bitchin part about the Corps was this. I traveled the world, met some interesting people. Met some that liked us. Met some that didn't. Did correspondence courses throughout. Received and education.

If Money is your motivator in this life, good luck.

Sorry if I'm being hard on him, my rose colored glasses are missing.

Mike,
Before I begin I just want to say that you have the potential to be or do anything in life that you choose. You are young, single, and in good health so the only thing that can hold you back is your own potential.

That being said, I agree with Jackpot that a "lead advertising rep" is a sales job. It is probably a commission based job, where they promise to pay you a minimum for a few months until you get good at sales. After a few months is up you only get commission. GET GOOD AT SALES QUICK AND CLOSING A SALE OR YOU WILL DROWN IN THE SYSTEM. The word lead is not to mean the highest up or the one in charge, it means a sales lead (i.e. a potential customer of the product that you are selling). You have no idea going in just how good of a lead it is so convince yourself that every lead is a sale if you handle it right. The possibility of a sale to this customer depends on several things, the most important of which is whether this customer is capable of buying your product and paying the significant monthly costs associated with this product (home security). It also depends upon your ability to convince this customer that he cannot live another day without this product and continuing service. Both Jackpot and I have been in sales for quite some time, and I will tell you it can be the most difficult thing you do or it can be as easy as falling off a boat, depending on your abilities and attitude.

Do not expect to earn $200K the first year or 2. Learn your product and more importantly learn how to read people to better yourself in this field. Try to stay in the upscale neighborhoods if you are an outside sales rep. Make your appointments for the same day if possible. What is important to somebody today may not be as important tomorrow. If you are inside sales, don't get frustrated by people hanging up on you or walking out. That is just one less person that you have to talk to before you make a sale. Once you make a sale, don't forget about the extras. They are usually a bigger piece of the pie for you as a salesman.

Good luck and kick some butt!

[quote=Jackpot;336259]Last time I checked, Lead Advertising Rep is code for sales job.

actually dude, i get hourly, from 8 to 8 six days a week at 15 an hour.
and then i also get 300 per sale.
3 sales its 400 per sale
4 sales its 500
5 sales its 600
6 sales its700
7 sales its still 700, along with a bonus thats size depends on how many over

i get at least sale a day. 6 sales

6x700= $4200
12 hours times 15 dollars= $180
180x6= $1080

4200+1080=5280

5280x4 weeks = 21120

21120x12=253,440

well... now that ive done the math for you and i, i know that i actually make 2.5k

thats just the competitive side of me. i always have to try to prove someone wrong.

so i guess in conclusion the point is i will/do make over 200k, and i have never gotten below one sale in a day

I hate to do this but,,,,,
I smell something, and it ain't my morning joe.

I call Bullshite.
But I am having fun hearing about a guy who was going to enlist in the service and then finding a "DREAM" job, then regrets not serving his country.

Pat Tillman turned down a sure thing with the NFL to serve and DIE for this country.

And to top it all off, this kid makes it sound like he's been at the job for years.

Flamethrower, check.
Coffee, check.
Bullshite detector, check.

Sorry guys but it don't add up in ol' Unclesurfs book of life.
