Quick Trip to Oregon

After finding out that my wife was pregnant with our second child, I decided to cancel my Sept. 1st Dove opener hunt and take my wife and son to visit her parents in Oregon and deliver the news in person. My real motive was to fish for some King Salmon on the Rouge River around Grants Pass while the wife visited grandma and grandpa.
My day started by meeting my drift boat guide at 5:45AM with my son. After hooking up in the little town of Merlin, we droped the boat in the water and my son started fishing with a quick fish plug and I was bouncing salmon roe. It wasn't 30 seconds when my seven year old son hooked up with a Jack Salmon about 20" long. It was great to watch as my son using a Calcutta rig set the hook and landed his fish with no help! We continued fishing and ended up with three Jack Salmon and one King about 30 pounds! My son also landed a Cut Throat Trout which we released.
All in all it was a great quick weekend trip but a long drive at 13 hours each way!
