There's this fish restaurant down in San Pedro we always go to get halibut. There's a fish market down the way from the restaurant that always has "interesting" catches for sale ie. shovelnose shark, mackerel, parrot fish and we like going down there to look at fish and people. Believe it or not..the only fish I like eating are white sea bass and halibut (albacore are ok)...so I release all calicos and give all yellowtail/barracuda/sheephead/sand bass etc away on the boat or to people I know...and as luck would have it I've never caught a halibut or seabass

I remember in the early sixties my parents were all ways going to ensenada fishing and would bring back giant black sea bass. of course that was before they outlawed them here in Cali. beautiful creatures.

the good thing is that they are really making a good comeback. When were diving at the islands, we see em all the time the last few years. Especially at anacapa and yellowbanks for some reason.

Go to Oregon Robert you can catch all the halibut you can legally keep! I know it is 6 fish annually and they change the day limit between 1 and 2 per day depending on the data related to the cap, once the cap has been met the season is closed to all commercial as well as sport for the rest of the year. Great Butt fishing up there. as far as the BSB goes I am sure it is imported. Unfortunately the almighty dollar rules. I would also go out on a limb here and say it probably came from south of the border.
