Cool what to use at lake casitas

Going to lake casitas this coming week 11th and 12th for a vintage trailer rally and have never been there. Was wondering where and what to use from shore for bass, rod size and line test lures. Any input would be great. Charlie santa cruz ca. Was set to fish salmon tommorow but not going to happen.

Hey Bro..If Ironman doesn't get back with ya in time, click on "Search" up above (Between "New Posts" and Quick Links"). Type in Casitas and it will give you all the strings regarding Casitas. Good Luck and Welcome aboard.

I used to shore fish Casitas a lot...I haven't been up there in the last 3 years. I always had my best luck with plastic worms, either Texas or Carolina rigged. A drop shot might work as well. Best colors for me have been purple, brown/black, motor oil, green weenie. Heck...there are so many colors to choose from these days. I've caught more fish there on purple than anything...but I have a head like a rock.

Be prepared to lose a LOT of tackle if you are fishing the points west of the marina. There are a lot of fish there, but it can get frustrating at times. Fishing Casitas in general can be frustrating...grrrr.

There's some shore fishing spots east of the marina in wadleigh too. I haven't fished them much, but a bud of mine got a 4 pounder on his first cast...on his first day ever fishing. True I swear...I took him there and set up his rod, netted his fish, and cleaned it for him. He was from another country and wanted to eat it...what can I say?

Another option...and a good one I think, is to just throw swimbaits all day. It's work, but the fact that you could get a hog at anytime keeps it pretty fun...for me at least. On the plus side you won't be re-tying every 10 minutes...the downside is that you might get skunked. I've been skunked at Casitas so many times that it makes me sick just thinking about it...why am I not ashamed? When the shad move in, and they will pretty soon...it will be game off for the most part unless you can catch the candy. Good luck to you!

Hey guys thanks for the great info, i will try some plastic worms first (purple for sure) and go from there. wish me luck! Went down to the santa cruz harbor today 2 blocks from my house to check the launch ramp to see if some people might show up and not know about the salmon closure. But fish and game was there early to take care of that. Man i need to catch a fish soon or i going to lose it!! No salmon No rockcod No halibut yet. Need to get my boat wet-- Charlie Santa Cruz Ca.
