I would say he should have let them know he wanted to do it himself. The first I took on the Mirage I had to do it myself as I was flat broke and only had enough to pay my galley and a little tip. I think just making things clear at the beginning and not be afraid to ask questions like how much does something cost is the key.

yeah unfortunatly hes a newbee to it all - they told him b4 they got to his sack-he actually asked what it cost as they were cleaning and they laid it to him- he said hed have to do it himself and they told him its 2 bucks ea. and that they had to do it for him-but i agree to ask questions and be informed and again he did but it kinda Fs up a trip when the deckys make a outa towner newbee feel like crap-it takes away alot from the expierience.

If true, that is totally BS.

If true, post up the name of the boat so we all know which boat NOT to fish on.

I think that its a huge deal. The boat didn't want to give the new guy his fish unless he paid $2 each for them? HUGE

I agree Bill. If you catch fish on an open party or charter boat that you have already paid to go out on, then the fish are yours to do with as you want. Not for the deck crew to tell you that you have to pay extra for your own fish.

Every time i have gone out and after the fishing is all done one of the crew comes around the boat and asks if you want your fish cleaned. At that point you have the right to say no or accept the offer from the crew to clean your fish for a fee.

It sounds like there was a miscommunication on this trip.

Right on Jeff. The fact he can't remember which boat it was, being a newbie..., sounds to me like it never happened. I remember at least the names of the boats I've been on, certainly not a lot of the details.

No boat should force a paying customer to clean their fish. I would have spoken with the captain if this was the case and then the landing if needed.
