What's up. Tony

I camped up there last weekend with the family too, and got out for some fishing also. I was the guy fishing in the greenish kayak by you when the whales passed. It was slow for me too, I got a couple of rockfish, a short ling and one calico, all on the plastic. The water was just too cold for decent bass fishing. Anyway, to answer your question, that kelp bed you were fishing is called Tajiguas, and can be REALLY good when the conditions are right. It is kinda a hot or cold place, if the current is running you can have 50+ bass days, if there's no water movement, it's dead. I've been fishing there for years and have had good days on bass, butts and wsb. You were in the right zone, it was just poor conditions. Refugio is the best for beach launching an inflatable, the Gaviota shore break can be sketchy.

Cool pics of those whales. Refugio sure is a beautiful place to fish. I've never caught much there, though.

Awsome up there

What a great day.You really scored a nice day on the weather.Try North of Gaviota,West by your compass up around San Augastines in about 125' awsome structure, lot of lings over there w/big chuckles, and reds, but bring alot of extra weights, and hooks that structure likes to grab things.Up from there is Coho.Look in kelp for WSB,and calicos. I dont recomend gettin in the water up there unless it's really clear. The man in the grey suit lives there.South of El Cap or East by compass is Naples,Awsome kelp beds.East of that is the El Wood area, get by the pier and start out in about 40 of water and drift around youll def get halibut bit. I kinda know about these spots cause it's like my back door.Anything else you need to know just ask

Tight lines and cheers
