Dangers of fishing in Mexico?

I am planning a bachelor party sportfishing trip into waters off Mexico going out of San Diego. With all the kidnappings in Mexico lately, are there any dangers to fishing boats? The boat never docks in Mexico and remains at sea the whole time. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Leaving from San Diego and never going into port in MX, I would say you have nothing to worry about.

Sport boats fish those waters daily and you never hear of any problems.

However trailering down on a private boat, I have heard some horrible stories.

JP no worries on a US based sportfisher. Even when trailering down, as I have a bunch of times, just got to keep your wits about you, and respect the authorities. Never had a problem since my first trip driving down in May of 1978.
Good luck and Godspeed.

Be safe driving down to Baja, things have changed for the worse................If you go, carpool with several vehicals 3-4 and stay together at all times. NEVER DRIVE AT NIGHT!
These past several years have gone real bad for dozens of baja travelers, from car jacking, rape, robbiers and even MURDER! Travel at your own risk! I just hate to say this because I love baja, I just don't like what I hear now about the BANDITOS.

Be wise

My inlaws live in Ensenada, and we travel down there all the time. You'll be safe on a boat out of San Diego for sure.If you do travel down there stay out of Rosarito, very bad there.DO NOT get drunk and stupid down there. They are really starting to crack down on drunk gringos down there.Travel on the toll road only during the day,and caravan w/others if you can.DO NOT pull over for any one untill you get to a toll booth. The banditos are dressing up,and setting up there cars like federalies, and those guys are the real bad guys.Bottom line is be cool don't act like fools, and be respectfull.Remember in Mexico you are guilty untill proven innocent.

Good luck,stay in controll.
