The water is warming up so I should be fishing. Right? Wrong! The wife told me that there was some family party in San Jose (San Jose is 40 miles south of San Francisco) and I had to go. Around noon today we take off and on our way we are to SJ. 160 miles down the road we stop by to get a bite at an IN & Out. When I pulled into the parking lot I felt something weird with the shifting on my transmission, I decided to not tell anything to my wife and test after we ate. I may have been wrong and did not want to worry the her.
After we ate and jumped in our car (2001 Honda Hodissey with 80K miles) I told her about the transmission problem and starting doing some testing by driving around. To make a long story short, my tranny went out on me!!
I'm pissed about it, the wife is pissed about not going to the party and seeing her family, my kids are mad too!!!
Anyway, the transmission was shifting very rough but, believe it or not, we made it back

. I was worried about having a broken down car with my family there and also having to pay a tow truck to bring us back home.
By the time we got back, the van is not engaging 1st speed, it slips, both my check engine and TCS (traction control system) lights are on. So we were VERY lucky to make it back.
Now, in a positive note, Honda knew about their defective transmissions and sent me a letter 4 years ago extending the warranty on it to 10 years or 100K miles. I called the dealer and they said to bring it in and that, most likely, it would be repaired under warranty (lets hope it is or it is going to cost me a pretty penny)
So, I have my weekend full with this issue now so most likely I can't go fishing either.
Oh well. I just wanted to share my ordeal with you guys.
Good luck on the water, and the road too.
I also learned one lesson, upgrade your AAA membership to the maximum coverage!!!
