SPOT Satellite Personal Tracker

Got it, Got a great deal. The unit costs $148 and $99 per year for service. I had 3, $10 West Marine certificates, so I decided to buy one before Memorial Day. The guy at WM wanted to sell me the extended warranty for $23 and I declined. He asked if I would take the warranty if he paid $20 of it. For $3 for two years no-fault, sure. Got the unit and 2 year extended warrant with tax out the door for $135. I now have world wide emergency satellite help. Have tried it out twice sending the I am ok message. Got my e-mail showing were I am on maps, satellite photo and topo map. Cool. Oh and at sign up got a year of world wide rescue insurance underwritten by Lyodds of London. $100k if I need to be helo'd or whatever. That cost $7.99.

I think its a deal, especially when I am out of VHF range. Chances are if your VHF won't do it, you cell wont either.

About the size of my original motorola flip phone.

I got the SPOT also. Kick ass little unit. I paid for the insurance and the google map thingy also. whether I'm hunting or on the water, at the end of the day I can get back home and see where Ive been. Pretty neat, and cheap too.

My wife really liked that I can send the updates. Because of health issues and the fact I go out alone or just me and the dog most of the time, she likes knowing she can have me send updates. They hit her work e-mail, home e-mail and cell phone.
