junk raft

Junk

This adventure is a exercise in getting the medias attention to a major problem we have in our oceans-floating junk, plastic bottles, glass bottles you name it. My friend Captain Charles Moore started this ocean research about 20 years ago and has brought his foundation a long way. His goal is awareness of polution and its effects on the marine enviroment. If you go to the link above you'll get a better understanding of this trip, by the way two guys are sailing to Hawaii on a raft made out of the debrie we all see out there when fishing, for shelter they have a airplane on top for a cabin ( no wings). As of this post they are off San Nichols lsland today waiting out a strom. This evening the dive boat sundowner will be delivering the last of moms apple pie to the crew then off for Hawaii. If you would like to follow their progress follow the link.

Good cause, but has to be the most dumb-ass idea I've ever heard of. Taking a raft made of junk into the open Pacific headed towards Hawaii at the start of Hurricane season? Not terribly bright in my opinion.

That's great what they are trying to accomplish. I see you're from LB. I was down at 72nd today and it looked bad, real bad. Clarity to near zero, but trash bags you could see clearly.

"Roger' your opinion on the trip Defiance, by all means the risk factor is there. As for crossing to Hawaii from California, the months of May, June is the time to go, thats when most everybody goes (for safety sake). Yes its the start of the hurricane season in the Pacific but at this time in the season they tend to hang around the equator at first, but as the water heats up some have enough energy to get higher up the latitude ladder. 72ND pl has alot of memorys for me when I was a Lifeguard for the city I lived on 72nd st, in those days the beach was pristine and clean. What you noticed today on 72nd st is what this trip to the Islands is exactly all about. You won the cigar
