Question How do you remove a reel seat ????

Hi, I bought a Super Seeker SSCJB65XH and it has reel seat that I want removed. I like the feel of a deckhand rod. Is is glued? Can I use a hammer and screwdriver and tap it off?
Input please! Thanks.

Could I put a socket wrench-open end around it and pound it off with a hammer?

Not sure is that the metal or the graphite? If metal then good luck I would try the wrench over the end and knock it off that way. You can heat it up with a heat gun too that can help break the glue but be very careful to much heat can cook the resin on the rod too.

Graphite I would just take a grinder to it or a dramel tool and keep taking a little off at a time till you get to the blank then peel it off. Hope someone has an easy fix for ya and good luck.

Don't beat it off, use a LITTLE heat on it and twist it loose. Carni's right, too much heat will bake the resin and make it brittle.

dont hit it! the reel seat can be heated with a plumbers torch or small butane torch. the epoxy will soften and it slides off. and dont overheat it! you can weaken the blank this way. i apply heat and then twist and pull with channel locking pliers.

A chainsaw is what I found works best.

Well he could set up the rod with a removable tail section that way. Could make it conventional or bent fight chair style.

To be honest with you Chris, I think you might be better off having a local builder take care of the removal of the seat and cork taping the rod for you.

Thumbs up

The way Flipper and I do it is: with a dremel tool cut very lightly a straight line the length of reel seat and another cut on other half, heat and peel apart....then alot of scraping with razor blade to get resin and bushings off..........have fun!
