Got a question for you Rod Builders...

I am about to pick up my first custom rod in a week or two. Is it customary to give a little more to my builder for doing a good job (kinda like a tip) or should I just plan on giving him the amount he is asking for? Thanks for the advice.

I personally have never tipped for a custom rod, but the choice is really yours on this. Usually the price they charge you is the price they want for the rod, which includes all labor.

They are already making money off your rod purchase for their labor, unlike a waitress would for serving you at a restraunt.

I'm sure the builder would not refuse a tip though...

If the builder does and overly impressive job i would give him/her a tip. although like Joey said.. they charge for labor aswell... thats where they make the money.

His name is Randy. He runs a little custom operation he calls Randmade Rods. His work is excelent. I got to meet his a couple months ago when I placed my order for a glass 90j and he is a really nice guy. He has been communicating very well with me over the past couple months and he is wrapping me a spectacular rod. He sends updated pictures every week on the progress he has made. I'll post pictures when I get it. Should be sometime between now and next weekend.

I'm not a rod builder, but I think a GREAT TIP would be to order another rod from him/her. JMHO.

Any comments Flipper?
