Channel Islands Harbor 11-12
Who: Skunk
Where: CI Harbor
When: Nov 12, 2006 7am to 10am
Craft: Ocean Kayak Drifter
Setup: Old Daiwa spin reel that my grandfather gave me on a super light 7 foot ugy stick
Catch: 25" White Sea Bass
Launched at the kiddie beach at 7 this morning and headed for the breakwall with the big hammers. got out the to see that the inside of the breakwall is closed down by the dredging. with the water being rough and waves crashing over the breakwall, i opted for fishing the interior harbor area. went to the baitdock and picked some fresh mussel for bait. dropped some down for a few minutes for nothing.
while i was out there i ran into a guy fishing from an inflatable yak. he offered all the live bait i wanted since he had a bait bag tied off near the sumo. dropped down the first dine and got hit within a minute....... lost my bait.. dropped down the second dine and whammo, my little ugly stick was bent into the water and the poor old daiwa reel was making some god awful noises. after a quick tow i was able to land a 25" white seabass... that made it worth going out there.
drifted for halibut for a while after that for a few good hits but nothing to stick.
10am hit and the wind came up from outta nowhere, so i decided to call it quits for the day... if not for the wind i might still be out there!
sorry no pics as i dont have a dry bag to carry a camera in.

Hey, Skunk, let me be the first to say, "Awsome!!" You did good catching a WSB out there-congrats. That sure would be fun. I was out at the beach in Ventura, and yes, it got blown out around 10am.

Sounds like a productive trip.
I woke up around 8:30 still partially hung over and said screw it, and went back to sleep.

Was planning on hitting the area and trying out the boat. Well I am still home and still working on the boat. Joey and Flipper and ready to kill me for not hooping tonight.
Good job on the WSB I have yet to hit even a short near the main land.

Way to go Rick sorry I didn't make it today...wife woke my A$$ up at 6:30 am we went cycling for an hour then out to I HOP for breakfast then she dragged me out to Home Depot....but I dragged her out to Hueneme Pier to catch bait for my hoop nets for 2 1/2 hours before going to church caught a bucket of Sardines and some Macks! The wind was kicking up big time at 1pm.........threw out a bait for Halibut but got no love.................
