3/4/07 MDR breakwall yakin!

Made plans with Jeff (jflow310) to take the yaks out on Sunday morning. The plan was to hit the break wall for calicos and then paddle close to the beach for perch and halibuts. we have hit the wall a few times with limited success but this time Jeff had bought us some creature baits. he gave me 2 and he kept 2. we tossed and tossed and tossed only getting a few bumps but nothing would stick. Jeff says i am going to pin on a little squid sure enough he gets hit hard but it does not stick. I figure i'd tip with squid as well after about 10 minutes nothing. lost the squid so i pinned on a bigger chunk. 2nd cast and wham its fish on! the fish tried to take me back into the rocks but i was fishing 20# p line and had it buttoned down pretty good. so good that i went on a little ride got the fish up and noticed it was a nice calico in the net it went. a short paddle to where Jeff was he snapped the pic and back in the water it went! we stayed at the wall for maybe 30 more minutes with no more fish. We then tried close to the beach for halibuts and perch on jerk baits but had no luck. the wind picked up and it was time to call it a day.

we are slowly but surly learing our area and i am sure we will have days where its wide for us. until then we'll keep at it!

I heard a few guys did well on rockies up in Malibu next time thats where we are headed!

Nice seeing you out there Dan. Thats a nice calico.

I didn't do too well, I got alot of taps but no solid hookups. Ended up getting a small baracuda.

WTG Dan, I've gotta get down there to your territory! Nice checkerboard, and thanks for reincarnating him for the next guy! When are we going to hit King Harbor again?
