Hooked and landed a ~45-50# WSB this morning...I'll get a solid wt on him later. Fought like a champ and homeboy has some serious shoulders on him. Head of a 35#er and the body of a 55#er. Good downhill current, greenish water, felt 62ish
The fish picked up my first bait in the water about 1 minute after putting it in!! Greenback mac on a 2oz slider. About 15 minutes before sunrise. Clicker was just slightly chirping and burping...i thought it was just my mac being frisky..I stopped paddling, listened and something was there for sure, but if I had to bet, I'd say sandbass or calico or something of that size...I took the clicker off and gently thumbed it for a bit...I gave a good 20-30 seconds and then flipped into gear....it took a while for the line to come tight, but the hook found purchase and I went on a reeaally nice sleigh ride. It ran away from the kelp and I was throwin some serious wake! a couple of minutes into it, a big knothead popped up and I had to tighten down and drag and start wailing on him.....soon, I was draggin the big guy into my lap...got this nice shot from my buddy on his skiff...
Old man Vito (76 year old italian guy in a kayak - classic guy) also went bendo on a surface mac seconds after securing my fish in the same area, but lost it shortly thereafter.
I hung in the area for my boss to arrive with his (70 year old visiting from Canada

) mom in the tandem - i told him to come out to the spot and I'd hand off some bait. I hooked them up, and while talking with them about the plan, I say to Les...hey, there's some splashing behind you!! Which also happened to be where my bait was headed....sure as s#!t, line starts screaming off my reel and before I could even get it in gear, the T goes on a 5 jump arial display with a bunch of plowing around mixed in...pretty rad! I'd say he was around ~100# or so. I got one good run outta him and he somehow spit the hook.
Crazy fun morning at the Jewel!!
