close encounter 06022007

I almost had a cardiac episode today.

went out with steve and paul today. a great day.

paul caught lots of fish including multiple WSBs.

steve got his share plus a monster, which I will leave for him to post about.

and me, i got some sandies and.....

while I was taking a short nap on my kayak in the pm, I awoke with what i thought was a fish on. so i sit up and what do I see, a freaking dark grey/brown 4-5 foot shark circling my swimbait that was just hanging 1 foot under the water to my left. mind you a 4-5 footer is not large, but it occupied my entire "just awakened" field of vision. yikes, so I scramble up, and the shark hits the swimbait, NO!, misses, YES!, comes back, NO!, bumps it, YES!, and circles and strikes again, NO! but it doesnt stick, YES! At which point I was frantically trying to pull up all my lines, I had 3 in the water, while transmitting on the radio "shark! shark! shark!". figuring out that I couldnt raise all lines fast enough, I pedalled out of there pronto.

didnt feel like napping after that.

as background, the last know fatality of a shark attack in southern california, was where I EXACTLY was. but that was 25 years ago.

the launch was gnarly, the landing gnarlier. the shore break launched spray as high as 15 feet up in the air. got in safe, so did steve, but paul ate some sand.

twas was todays adventure. wait for steve's that one is a whopper.

Heh, I'd love to read the sharks post on the Davey's Locker Forum.

"You should have seen the look on that humans face when I woke him up!
Dang, just missed that filet of Bing, ROTFL, that dude was literally walkin on the water to get away!"

Glad you're ok.

Wink

Me very scared of those toothy ones, but it is a funny story! Yak fishing is taking off here as well, but I will rather stay ashore for that reason. Our GW sharks are more in the 4-5 meter class.

Not too worry, a shark that size cant eat you, only only take a part of you
