Refugio Trip

I finally got to spend a fews days camping and fishing at Refugio. The weather was better than the fishing though. Nothing but a salad bowl from the shore but did pick up a few small pearch. We mainly fished the kelp paddies but it was quite slow. Some small cabazon, a number of pearch and some makeral caught on plastics and gulp. It was freaky to see batrays and shovels swim underneath my yak and go right past a whole squid dangling right in front of them. That's the way it was up there. Lots of fish around but not wanting to eat. The trip was special in one sence though. My wife caught her first fish from her kayak out on the paddies.

Yep, it's not as fishy as it would appear. Easy launch, though. We have seen batrays there, too.

A couple weeks back I fished that area, and it was slow then.
Kelp looked ill.
Minus the fish, Refugio is one nice campground.

Your wife makes it look like it was a bit chilly out there?

Refugio sucks. nothing offshore and very little inside. only time it gets goods is when halibut slide into the bay.

Some kind of rubber lip perch as far as I know. Actually the surf was pretty good on the inbound. Nothing of any size but the shape held well for some fairly long rides. Some 250# guy broke his leg pretty badly and had to be drug in by a couple of young gals who could barely keep his head out of the water. My wife likes to warm and toasty Wills. It really wasn't to bad except for the wind.

It looks like a blue perch.
