After spending the better part of the week on the East Coast freezing my a$$ off, I was jonesing for some fishing action in So Cal climate. Gave Ray (Crabkracker) a call Friday and squared away today's game plan.
Met up with Ray at the designated spot at 7 AM. I thought he said launch at 7 but when I arrived, he was already out there drop shotting.
I
quickly geared up and was on the water in no time flat. Just a hair under 5 minutes to be exact!
Ray wasn't having much luck but it only took a few minutes for the bite to materialize for me. First hour was pretty good with 6 spotties checking in, including a TOAD that actually pulled me around in the yak.

Thought it was a flattie at first but the constant headshake and fight told me otherwise.
2nd hour was slow with only 2 more making it to the count and the last 2 hours were for naught.
Great weather, slack tide with very little water movement and some cool company. It was nice to fish with a sweatshirt and actually be sweating! I love SoCal.
Some Pics...
10 minutes into the day and fish on.
Hot color...brown with silver flakes.
Spottie #2 was a toad. Photos do it no justice.
I think my hatch is 12-13 inches wide and this spottie was several inches longer.
Then a few more checked in...and brown with silver flakes was the hot ticket.
After 5 hook ups and numerous short bites, the Big Hammer swimmie had taken a pretty good pounding.
Then a poach moment that should make Evan proud. I paddled over to Ray to hand him a couple of the hot colors that were working for me. While he rigged up the new swimmie, I casted over to where he was fishing and promptly pulled another nice one from his spot. Poach du jour
and another decent fish.
Ray landed a 16 inch flattie but I think the bass avoided him like the plague.

Good yakking with ya chief. Hoopin' next Friday...I'm IN!
